A kitchen bench in Hobart
Hello, I’m Imogen. I work three days a week at a public library, and on the other evenings you’ll find me at the kitchen bench with a pen, a small sketchbook and a pot of tea going cold.
I started drawing three winters ago. A patron returned a book on pattern drawing with a pen tucked inside it, nobody claimed either, and I took both home. I wasn’t trying to get good at anything. I just liked how a page of small, repeated marks felt to make.
What this site is
Slow Lines Studio is where I write down what I learn about drawing at a gentle pace. I’m a hobbyist, not a teacher and not a therapist, and nothing here is medical or mental health advice. It’s simply what one person does with a pen and what she noticed along the way.
What you’ll find here
- Simple pattern and line exercises you can do in ten minutes
- Honest notes on cheap pens, paper and sketchbooks
- Ways to keep a drawing habit going without making it a chore
- Reviews of online drawing courses, from the point of view of someone who likes to go slowly
If you’d like to ask me something, the Say Hello page has my email.
